If you and your pets need to leave home quickly, be sure to prepare ahead.
- Have a list of friends that live from several miles away to several states away who will provide shelter to you and your animals for a few days.
- For each dog, cat or other animal, prepare a travel bag with a bowl, a supply of food, bottled water, a leash, collar or restraint, identity tags, a toy, towels, and bedding.
- Take clean up materials, such as paper towels and baggies, or for cats, some litter and a box.
- Have a crate or travel kennel on hand to provide a safe haven for your pet while traveling or staying in a strange place.
- Take your veterinarian’s address and phone number, as well as your pet’s medications.
- Remember to plan for yourself and pack at least 3 days of clothing and personal care products, medications, identification, insurance card, credit cards and checks, currency including change, a cell phone and a list of important numbers. Also take a blanket, pillow, and a map.
